Samsung Announces the Galaxy Discover; Without Touchwiz?

Yes, you read that right. The Samsung Galaxy Discover will come WITHOUT Touchwiz. You know that skin that Samsung puts on all their devices? Yeah, it’ll have stock Android. The Galaxy Discover is coming to the US and will be available on Net10 and Straight Talk. It’s also going to be a rather low-end device, unfortunately. Here are the specs for the Galaxy Discover:

  •  3.5-inch HVGA display
  • 800MHz Qualcomm processor (Single Core?)
  • 2.7GB Internal storage; expandable storage via microSD card slot
  • 3MP camera on the back
  • 1300mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich

Like we said above this comes without Touchwiz which is kinda surprising. There also shouldn’t be any bloatware, since its going to prepaid carriers. You’ll be able to buy it at full price and put it on any GSM carrier as well, if you wish. Not much else is known about the Galaxy Discover, including pricing and availability. I’d expect it to be priced around $250. Which would still be cheaper than the Nexus 4 which is running Stock Android, and a better/more recent version of Stock Android. We’ll leave that up to you to decide which you’d pick up. Although my money is on the Nexus 4.

The Samsung Galaxy Discover actually looks like a really nice device. The best part is that there is no physical home button, just capacitive buttons. Although I would prefer software keys. But who can beat stock Android right? Even if it is Ice Cream Sandwich. Remember the Nexus 4 is now in stock and available for $299 for the 8GB and $349 for the 16GB. The Galaxy Nexus is currently only on sale at Sprint, for $99 with a 2-year contract. So you do still have plenty of choices for stock Android if you want better specs. But the expandable storage might be a big selling point over Nexus devices.
