When covering Android news we’re always hearing about the latest and greatest smartphones from a lot of the main manufacturers, and one of these is Sony who, with their Xperia Z have given Android fans a lot to look forward to. In case you missed it, the Xperia Z was announced to much fanfare at this year’s CES and it’s one of the first smartphones that the company has designed truly on their own, after they bought Ericsson out of their join mobile venture. It’s what Sony are calling “the best of Sony, in a smartphone”. Of course, that remains to be seen but, the reaction to the device at the Consumer Electronics Show was pretty positive.
Hearing about a device and seeing it announced, is different to actually seeing the device hit store shelves and finally go on sale. We’ve been hearing differing release dates for the Xperia Z but now, a UK network has gone ahead and confirmed it for us. Three UK have already said that they’ll be selling the latest Sony flagship but there’s some more definite information now. Three UK have said the following about the phone: “The Sony Xperia Z will be available from the 28th February for £34 a month…” which confirms a release right at the end of the February. Which is perhaps a good time for Sony to release the device, after all MWC will be closing up around then and the phones announced will take some time to hit the market but Sony will be capturing the new device “buzz” as their flagship will already be on shelves.
There’s no word – unfortunately – of when the device will be coming to the U.S. but, when it does it’s likely to be on AT&T, as the two have stayed close together in the past. We really hope that Sony manage to release this device in the States on more than just AT&T after all, Samsung have their flagships on all major carriers and that’s certainly working out for them.
If you’re in the UK and have been looking forward to Sony’s latest, then there’s an extra incentive for pre-ordering. The first 1000 that do so will receive a pair of MDR-1R Prestige Headphones, said to be worth £299.
