HTC currently has a press event scheduled for February 19th, and if rumors turn out to be true, the company will unveil several new smartphones. We already know all about the supposed HTC One flagship, but one supposed device we’ve heard a lot less about is the G2. No, it’s not the same QWERTY keyboard G2 that HTC released a couple of years ago, but rather a new, mid-range device.
One of the changes people expect HTC’s next line of flagships to offer is a much simpler overlay. HTC claimed Sense 4 was cleaner and easier than used than Sense 3, but many people still complained that it was too heavy, slow, and complicated to use. Sense 5.0, according to rumors, will be even simpler. But up until today, we only had an idea as to how HTC planned to do this. PhoneArena has gotten its hands on what it believes to be a screenshot of the Sense 5 build running on the supposed HTC G2.
The screen shot definitely shows a simpler interface than what HTC currently offers. Icons have a much cleaner design, though the classic HTC weather widget remains the same. Besides simpler icons, the only other noticeable change relates to the dock at the bottom, which now extends across the whole bottom, as opposed to the edged dock we’ve seen on Sense 4 devices.
The G2 is expected to feature a 1GHz processor and 3.5-inch WVGA display. It’s worth noting that the resolution of the screenshot is 320 x 480, or WVGA, so it has that going for its authenticity.
In reality, I really hope HTC has more planned for Sense 5 than this. A few redesigned icons are not going to magically make your operating system easier to navigate and use. HTC needs to take a step back and look at what Samsung currently offers. TouchWiz is clean and functional, but also offers a host of innovative. Right now, Sense is cluttered and extremely laggy and slow. A few icon changes are not going to fix this.
Whether or not this is actually Sense 5 remains to be seen. HTC currently has a press event scheduled for next Tuesday, so we don’t have too long to wait to see what the company has up its sleeve. What do you think of this supposed Sense 5 screenshot?
