It seems like hell has frozen over. Verizon has released Android 4.1.2 for their Galaxy S3 variant, and the Android 4.2.2 update for their Galaxy Nexus variant is also available for download. The Galaxy S3 update is about 150.3MB in size and is currently rolling out to all the S3’s out there. For those interested, it’s build VRBMB1, and it should improve Bluetooth, predictive text in the keyboard, email syncing, and let you take pictures while taking a call. Also, VZ Navigator and Amazon have been added to the stub applications.
Now this update should include the Premium Suite, but we haven’t found anything in the changelog that indicates it does. So be on the lookout for features like Multi-Window, since the Premium Suite does come in the Android 4.1.2 update for other Galaxy S3 variants. You should be able to grab the update now manually, and it’ll take about 5 minutes to download and about another 5 minutes to install, according to Verizon’s instruction documents. Here’s how you can grab the update now:
- Go into Settings
- Tap on About Phone
- Tap on System Updates
- Tap Check for Updates
If you aren’t able to get the update using that method, you’ll probably have to wait until it’s pushed out to you. Which shouldn’t take to long, probably a week at the most. If you find any other new features, bug fixes, performance enhancements in this build let us know in the comments below.
How many of you are using the Galaxy S3 on Verizon? How long did you think it would take Verizon to push out this update? I know I didn’t expect them to push it out before Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile, it is a welcomed surprise though. But you’re still on Android 4.1.2, but closer to Android 4.2.2. The next update for the Galaxy S3 on Verizon should be either a bug fix or Android 4.2.x, and we’ll be sure to keep you up to date on that one.
