Tonight, Samsung pretty much announced a whole new store of accessories. We’ve seen cases, pouches, flip covers, the S Health Scale, and now the Wireless Charging Pad. Yes the Samsung Galaxy S4 does have wireless charging. There were only a few Wireless Charging Pads at the event tonight for everyone to play with. But Engadget was able to check it out briefly. The Galaxy S4 uses Qi wireless charging. Which means this accessory should charge the Droid DNA and Nexus 4 as well. The Nexus 4 wireless charging orb should charge the Galaxy S4 as well. Since they all use the Qi standard.
The charging pad is a glassy plastic base which does match the Galaxy S4. There’s also a nice rubbery gray top that keeps the Galaxy S4 from sliding around to much. Which has been a problem with the Nexus 4 wireless charging orb. Now what would be interesting with this wireless charging pad is if it will charge the Galaxy S4 slower than just plugging it in. The Nexus 4 charges much slower on the wireless charging orb, it also heats up quite a bit more, unfortunately.
So far there is now information on release dates or pricing, but we are hoping it’ll be available when the phone goes on sale. Pricing will probably be about the same as other wireless charging mats on the market. So I’d expect it to be priced between $40-60. Unfortunately, wireless charging mats are still kinda expensive right now. Hopefully in the next couple of years it’ll go down in price.
Who’s excited about wireless charging on your Galaxy S4? It’s wireless charging, but you still have to plug the wireless charging pad into the wall. So is that really “wireless charging”? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
