Oh, the X-Phone, it’s like a fairy tale for all Android fans everywhere; the perfect Android smartphone. We’ve heard a lot about the device, ranging from outlandish specs such as 128GB of onboard storage to 32 Megapixel cameras. We all know that those sort of specs aren’t going to surface in a device like this. One thing is for sure though, Motorola have got to be up to something; you don’t see this much smoke without a firing being nearby.
Today, AndroidWorld has been handed some more information about the upcoming smartphone and this time around, things don’t seem too ridiculous and could well be the real deal. First of all, it looks like the X-Phone might be called the Motorola NXT. Specs could well comprise of the following:
- 4.7-inch Full HD screen
- NVIDIA Tegra 4i
- 16 megapixel rear-facing camera
- 5 megapixel camera (that doubles as an ambient light sensor, with eye tracking tech for scrolling through web pages and e-mails)
- Dimensions: 131.2 x 66.7 x 7.9 mm
- Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie
The rumor still states an unveiling at this year’s I/O conference in summer and while that might seem a little close for Nvidia to get the Tegra 4i in order, they seemed to do pretty well with the Nexus 7. Nvidia have yet to announce any partners for their phone chipset – or many for the Tegra 4, for that matter – which could be a sign that Google and Motorola have placed an order for an awful lot of processors.
If the rumors about this being a pure example of what an Android device could be capable of, then Key Lime Pie at launch would be a given and this supposed eye-tracking software could well be part of Android 5.0, but it’s pretty unlikely.
Of course, salt is advised to be taken with this latest rumor and while I normally advise a pinch, I’d advise something more like a spoonful. The eye-tracking detail could just be a spin-off from the Galaxy S IV launch and you never know, this latest rumor could be coming straight from Samsung themselves. The image that AndroidWorld was handed by a tipster has been confirmed to be fake, which is unsurprising as it didn’t look genuine anyway. But what of the rest of the rumor, could Google be teaming up with Nvidia like they with the Nexus 4?
