Over the past couple of years, HTC has had trouble selling devices. And because of that they are no longer in the ‘cool kids club’ with manufacturers. So they have to wait behind the larger manufacturers like Samsung and Apple. Today, an unnamed HTC executive told WSJ that the availability of their new flagship device has indeed been pushed back due to components not being available.
The company has a problem managing its component suppliers as it has changed its order forecasts drastically and frequently following last year’s unexpected slump in shipments…. HTC has had difficulty in securing adequate camera components as it is no longer a tier-one customer.
Now you can see in there that HTC did say they aren’t in the cool kids club anymore, which is not to surprising. They’ve been spiraling out of control for the last year and a half to two years. HTC’s CEO Peter Chou has also stated that if the HTC One flops, he will step down as CEO. Which would probably be best for the company at this point. The major part that they are waiting on is the camera. Which is custom made for the HTC One, no other phone has this camera module. But as Cnet put it, basically the component suppliers are the bouncer at the club telling HTC to wait since they aren’t cool.
HTC is looking at launches happening in the end of March or April. Of course that’s not confirmed, but we do know that it has been delayed. We’ll have to keep you up to date with what’s going on with the HTC One delay. In the meantime, you can check out our Phone War where we put the Galaxy S4 vs the HTC One, and let you decide which one is the better device.
