Google is always working on new products, we know that. But it looks like Google is working on a newspaper feature called Google Play News. Which would compliment all the other content in the Play Store. Including apps, books, TV shows, movies, and magazines. Android Police first spotted this, but it looks like news content will come in “Issues” and “Subscriptions,” suggesting that Google is working on a feature to compete with Apple’s Newsstand which launched with iOS 5.
This was all found in a javascript file hosted on the web version of the Google Play Store. The text “Google Play News” is mentioned just once at the beginning, but it doesn’t look like it’s a typo.
To read Google Play News, you must have a supported Android phone or tablet

It’s also worth noting that most of the text in the JavaScript file is identical to the Magazine section of Google Play. This suggests that we’ll see two closely related sections in Google Play. Google Play News isn’t ready to be launched yet, but we might see it launched at Google I/O in May.
The folks at Android Police is also noting that the section will be yellow in the Play Store as noted in the picture below.
So could this be the reason why Google is getting rid of Google Reader? When Google announced that Google Reader would be gone on July 1st, it got a lot of people upset. Since most of us use Google Reader every day, especially to find Android news to report on. How many of you would be interested in a Play News section on the Play Store? Would you rather pay for a subscription to a site like Android Headlines, then to go to the site and see ads? Let us know in the comments down below.
