March 28th: OUYA Throwing a Launch Party in San Francisco

In a few weeks, OUYA will be throwing a nice launch party to officially launch the OUYA console. The OUYA is supposedly going to sell for $99 and run Android. It’s one of the most anticipated devices of the year, mostly because it’s something new to the market. Sure the Galaxy S4, HTC One, and a few other devices are highly anticipated but we’ve seen phones released almost daily. But an Android Gaming console? That doesn’t happen to often. In fact the only other company to announce one was NVIDIA with their Project Shield at CES. But we have yet to hear anything about a price or release date. I’m expecting Project Shield to be two or three times what OUYA will cost.

So far there are hundreds of games being built for OUYA so those that have ordered one or are planning on ordering one will have plenty of games to choose from. The OUYA team has also recently redone the entire gaming controller, and made it easier to use. So we’ll have to check that out when it becomes available.

Two weeks after Samsung announces their Galaxy S4, OUYA will be officially unveiling their device. It’s probably a better idea than what XOLO is doing, and announcing their “fastest smartphone ever” on the same day as Samsung’s Unpacked event in New York City. Hopefully OUYA can get some excitement going for them before their event, most people might still be thinking about the Galaxy S4, but we’ll have to wait and see.

We’ll be sure to bring you all the details from their little part in San Francisco on March 28th. How many of you are excited to get your hands on this sub-$100 gaming console? I know I’m excited to check it out. I really hope it’s a smash hit, especially since Sony only half-announced the PlayStation 4.
