More leaks of the Motorola X Phone have popped up today. Yesterday’s images appeared to be fake, and the specs that were leaked also sounded a bit fishy. Now it’s a whole new day, which means even more leaks. But these specs sound just as fishy as the ones that came out yesterday. Apparently the leak comes from a “well-placed individual” that gave Ausdroid some details about the X Phone. This is the phone that’s supposedly being built with a partnership of Google.
According to the source, the Motorola X is going to have a 5-inch 1080p Full HD display, compared to yesterday’s leak giving us a 4.7-inch display. The interesting thing here is that Motorola has been said to have trouble getting 5-inch displays and were looking at going the 4.7-inch route if needed. As you can see this all sounds a bit fishy, especially since the X Phone is supposedly going to launch in July with an announcement in May. That should mean that Motorola already knows what size display the phone will have, since they should be mass producing them by now.
Now the processor, yesterday’s leak showed us that we’d be getting the Tegra 4i. Now today’s leak is telling us to expect a dual-core Qualcomm CPU? Really Motorola? But apparently the Tegra 4i is still a strong possibility. Just to reiterate, it’s pretty hard to believe that Motorola hasn’t decided on a chipset or display for their flagship device. Now today’s rumors are also stating we’ll see a 10MP camera on the back. 10MP? That’s kind of odd don’t you think. Then the front would have a 5MP camera. We’ve just started seeing 2MP camera’s hitting the front of devices, it’s kind of hard to believe that Motorola would jump up to a 5MP front-facing camera.
There are also some distribution details here. Motorola is only going to sell the X phone in countries in which the biggest carrier’s order is at least 25 thousand units. Also, the carriers have to “commit” to selling at least that many phones. Now this should help Motorola cut costs, but it would be a smart idea for Motorola to finalize the device before asking carriers for commitments, right?
Normally here we’d say to take this with a grain of salt, but I’d say take it with a big bucket of salt. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that none of this is true. But I do hope we see their flagship device coming out in May or earlier. Motorola desperately needs something on store shelves.
