The Nexus 4 seems to have gotten a slight redesign recently. A few other Android blogs have been able to confirm that LG and Google have updated the Nexus 4 design to include a few “nipples” that will raise the device up off of a table. Allowing for better speaker sound, and hopefully keep the glass on the back from scratching to much. It was first reported by a German site MobiFlip. The small nipples are on the rear of the phone where the glass meets the foot. It’s just above the two screw holes on the device.
The image above was taken by Android Central. It shows their original Nexus 4, along with a new Nexus 4 which came in yesterday on the bottom. In the image you can see the small nipples between the screw holes on the two Nexus 4’s. This small change, as we stated above, should lift the phone up a bit allowing the speaker to sound less muffled and keeping the glass off of surfaces and getting those small scratches which we’ve all picked up on our Nexus 4 by now.
The camera also got a bit of a tweak as well. The image below, again from Android Central, shows that there is a bit less exposed area around the lens. We have no idea why this change was made in the design. Perhaps it helps with the light leakage or it could just be discrepancies with the manufacturing process. But it is pretty noticeable. We’ll need to do more digging to find out why.
It’s great to see that LG and Google are still working on the Nexus 4, and yes it still has the glittery back. That has not changed so far. But we’ll be sure to let you know if it does. So some nice design changes that make it a bit better of a phone. How many of you that just picked up a Nexus 4 have noticed these changes? Let us know in the comments down below.
