It’s that time of the year again Android lovers, enthusiasts and developers! Registration for Google’s premiere event, Google I/O 2013 will begin tomorrow (March 13th) at 7AM PDT.
Just in case you don’t know what the event is: Google I/O is an annual conference tailored specifically for developers. At the event, experts discuss building software and applications for platforms like Android, Chrome, Chrome OS and the web.
Hopefully you’re at least aware that this is a monumental event for many, especially for anyone invested in the Android world. The event is incredible popular and open spots sell out quick. In fact, last year Google I/O sold out in about 24 minutes. It’s especially surprising because last year Google extended the event to last three days, and opened up even more spots for developers to join in the festivities. Even though there were more openings available, the event still sold out fast.
With information likely to be revealed about Google Glass, Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) and future Google projects, this years event is certainly going to be busy. If you want in on the action, you’re going to have to be ready to register early. You’ll probably need to be pretty fast when typing out the required information too. My guess is that this year, just like years past, registration won’t be open for very long.
In order to apply, you’ll need to have a Google+ account, as well as a Google Wallet account to pay for the event. It’s $900 for developers to attend the event, and $300 for students and faculty. If you’re wondering why prices are a little high, it’s because this event isn’t really for the public. It’s a terrific place for Android developers to learn the ropes, and get help with developing applications and software for Google’s platforms.
One boon for those who pony up the price of a ticket, is that Google loves to give away current gen Nexus devices to attendees, especially developers. I’m sure this year will be no exception.
Google Glass should rear its head this year in full force, and we may even see an appearance from the Motorola X-Phone. Hey, one is certainly allowed to hope, right?
