Just like Samsung released the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S3 Mini last year, they’re probably going to do the same this year. After all, it only makes sense to keep the pattern going. The first Galaxy S4 Mini reports have started cropping up already, but it seems the newest adds some pretty exciting news to the existing list of rumors.
Reports indicate that the Galaxy S4 Mini will be powered by an Exynos 5210 processor. Undoubtedly, you won’t recognize the SoC model number because it hasn’t been officially revealed by Samsung yet. That leaves quite a bit of room for speculation on its clock speed and performance ratings.
If the rumor is indeed true, this will be Samsung’s third chipset in the Exynos 5 processor series. The other models include the 5250 or Exynos 5 Dual, and 5410 or Exynos 5 Octa. Unfortunately, the Exynos 5 Octa will only be powering various international versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 (insert frown here).
As you can see from that list, there’s a certain quad-core chipset variant missing, which is presumably the spot that the 5210 is going to fill. It makes sense then that the 5210 will indeed by a quad-core chipset, considering there already is a dual-core and octa-core.
The next question is how the quad-core chipset will be implemented. For example, is Samsung going to take advantage of ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture with four cores that work together at various times as per performance requirements? At this point in time, we don’t actually know much else.
We can make an educated guess, however that Samsung is probably going to use two Cortex-A7 cores combined with two A15 cores. This is essentially a mirror of the Exynos 5 Octa which includes four Cortex-A15 cores and four A7 cores, all equaling eight cores total.
We could be wrong altogether though. The unrevealed Exynos 5210 could end up being just an ordinary dual-core processor. That doesn’t explain why Samsung would use a chipset with a entirely different model number though.
We don’t know much else about the Galaxy S4 Mini right now. It’s rumored to include a 4.3-inch qHD screen running at a maximum of 960 x 540 pixels. We’ve also heard whispers that there are going to be four different variants of the phone available, including two specific models: one with LTE and the other with dual-SIM.
Like always, we’ll just have to wait until more information is available. I would prefer it comes from Sammy directly.
