Now here’s something we weren’t expecting, but Samsung and Sprint have announced that their Galaxy S2 variant, the Epic 4G Touch is getting its update to Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean. But unfortunately you’ll only be able to get it through Kies, due to the file size. You’ve probably heard me say many times how much I hate Kies, well if you have an Epic 4G Touch, you’ll find out why when you try to update your device with Kies.
While Sprint and Samsung are saying that the file is to big to be rolled out OTA, we’ve got our money on the fact that it’s nearly 2 years old and not high on Sprint’s priority list for OTA’s. But hey at least your getting the update right? You’ll need to be running stock and on version FL24 to get the update. The new version will be GB27 and will come with Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean and all the awesome features it brings. Including Google Now, Enhanced Notifications and more. We’re also expecting some changes to Touchwiz, and the usual bug fixes, although it’s not stated in the changelog, which is pretty short and not very descriptive.
Sprint’s support site says that the update will be pushed out in stages, but that’s kinda hard to believe since it’s going out via Kies. You can download Kies from Samsung’s website, which will walk you through how to download the update and install it. It’s pretty easy, except Kies is just a pain to use.
If you still have the Epic 4G Touch, and install the update, leave a comment below about how you are liking or disliking the update. Are there any bugs that need to be fixed? Like when they released ICS for the Epic 4G Touch?
