Well, Samsung had more than just the Galaxy S4 to show off tonight. The Korean manufacturer also showed off a new Wireless Game Pad prototype. This type of device seems to be pretty popular lately. First we had the MOGA, then Project Shield was announced at CES by NVIDIA. We also have the OUYA coming soon. So far Samsung doesn’t have a formal name for this device, but it’ll probably be the Galaxy Game Pad or Galaxy S Pad or something similar.
The Game Pad is basically a Bluetooth controller with a full complement of face buttons, dual analog sticks, a directional pad, and even shoulder buttons on the back. It uses a couple of AAA batteries to power the device and connects wirelessly with the phone held in place. It works similarly to how the MOGA controller works. I just hope it works better. The device is big enough to hold the Note 2 and possibly even the Note 8.0, but that’s not yet confirmed.
As usual, Samsung did not announce any pricing or availability for the Game Pad, but since it’s a prototype, it’ll probably be a while before it actually becomes available for us to purchase. Hopefully we’ll see this Game Pad supporting almost every Android device, which would be pretty awesome. You can check out Engadget’s hands-on video down below to see how well or not so well it works. Hopefully we’ll see it hit the market this year. It would be awesome if Samsung launched this with the Note 3 later this year, or am I dreaming to much?
