Transitioning between Android phones can be a pretty simple process because most your stuff is saved to the users GMail account. Apps, contacts, photos, even music are all either stored in the cloud or easily synced up between devices. Going cross platform like switching from an IOS device to an Android powered handset is a more difficult task, one which a lot of people will describe as a giant pain in the ass.
It wasn’t all that long ago that we wrote about HTC’s attempt to make the switch between an Apple device and the new HTC One smartphone, which will be available in a couple of weeks, as seamless as possible. The HTC Sync Manager will have the ability to read through iTunes backups and sift through certain data for transfer to your new Android phone. The data that can be transferred will be photos, videos, calendar entries, and text messages.
Now we find out that Sony has a similar process for transferring user data from an iPhone to one of their Xperia devices. Unlike HTC’s method, where you can only use the process on their newest handset, Sony allows for cross platform data syncing with a whole slew of their devices. The list of compatible Sony Xperia phones are: the Xperia V, Xperia VC, Xperia TX, Xperia T, Xperia TL, Xperia Z, and Xperia ZQ.
The whole process is fairly straightforward as you can see in the video below, although it does seem a lot easier to do with a Windows PC as opposed to a Mac. Once the user downloads either PC Companion or Sony Bridge for Mac, it seems like it’s all plug and play from there. Data such as contacts, text messages, calendar appointments, bookmarks, notes, photos and videos, and even your iTunes music library can be transferred from an iTunes backup on your computer to your new Xperia smartphone. You are even given the choice to send the contacts directly to the cloud by using your Google account which will then sync with your handset.
So if you are reading this and thinking of making the upgrade from an IOS device to a Sony Xperia head on over to Sony’s website for more information or check out the videos below.
