Archos seem to be preparing four new Android smartphones and it looks like they’re sticking to their shotgun approach (creating a lot, hoping one will be successful). They’ve released a spec sheet featuring the four new devices ready for market. As with their tablets, the new Archos devices are following the element naming scheme.
The new devices include a basic, single core model named “Carbon” with two mid-range dual-core units branded “Titanium” and finally a quad-core 4.8″ phone named “Platinum”. All four of the new devices feature a dual-sim setup.
Here is the spec sheet:
The specs don’t look that bad at all and the “Platinum” model still won’t be classed as a top-end device although this wouldn’t have been the case a year or two ago.
Some users have managed to discover sales listings for the cheaper models, with the Carbon model coming in at £70 or $106 and from the spec sheet these devices may be on the market around April/May, with some of the devices already showing up in some on-line stores.
In relation to the specs, the prices are very competitive and will be a good offering for the European markets. With this in mind, these devices should sell quite well and not leave the buyer with a whole in their pockets.
The three lower ended models seem to have good specs all round, but are let down on a few areas. The main area is the screen, with the lowest model only having a 480 x 320 IPS display. However the top-end “Platinum model” rivalling some of the flagship models released last year, with a 1280 x 800 display. Another let down is the MediaTek processors which are the lower standard of chip compared to the likes of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon.
Another point to note is that none of them have a very good front camera, so if you’re an avid video caller, this probably isn’t the device for you. If you look closely, you’ll also notice that the “Platinum” device actually has a smaller battery than the two mid-range devices, with a 2000 mAh battery, compared to the 2200 mAh batteries in the mid-range devices.
What are your thoughts about the specs of these devices, are you considering picking one up?
