Archos just unveiled a new tablet for the masses, called the Arnova 97 G4. While the name is certainly debatable, I can certainly say it looks pretty good, at least on paper. The exterior design isn’t half bad either. In fact, it resembles the Nexus 10 a bit, but then again that’s not so hard to do since all tablets have a glossy black finish and thick bezels.
The Arnova 97 G4 includes a 9.7-inch display as if that wasn’t already obvious due to the name. The display operates at a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768, which isn’t full HD, but that’s alright, I think.
The Arnova 97 also includes the following internal hardware:
- Dual-core ARM Cortex 1.6GHz processor
- Quad-core Mali-400 GPU
- 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display (1024 x 768 resolution)
- 1GB of installed RAM
- 8GB of internal storage with MicroSD expansion slot (up to 32GB)
- Includes USB port, 3.5mm headphone jack and HDMI output
- 2 megapixel front and rear facing cameras
- Rechargeable lithium ion battery (unknown size)
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- Dimensions: 243.2mm x 190mm x 10.5mm
Unfortunately, nothing has been released about price yet, but I’m willing to bet it’s going to be reasonable, at least I hope it will be. The specs put it right on par with the budget section of the tablet market. Let’s hope Archos doesn’t try to promote this thing as a high-end device.
Now that, you’ve seen what’s included are you interested in picking up a tablet like this or would you rather just go with the Nexus 10? For comparison, Archos isn’t too bad about getting updates out to consumers, but the process is never as fast as it happens on a stock Android device. By now, we all know the blessing of stock Android is that you get to stay on the bleeding edge of the Android platform in terms of updates and software builds.
If you’ve owned an Archos tablet in the past or still own one, please feel free to chime in below. We’d love to hear how it’s working out for you, or -adversely- if it isn’t.
