The ASUS Cube was actually first revealed back at CES in January as the Qube. ASUS has decided to switch the Q out for a C, maybe they didn’t want the Cube to suffer the same fate as the Nexus Q? Now the Cube is available for purchase. The ASUS Cube comes with 50GB of ASUS WebStorage for free, along with the latest version of Google TV. ASUS also has a quick and easy user interface for apps, along with voice search and PrimeTime support.
As far as the specs go, there isn’t a whole lot of information about it. But Newegg lists it as having
- HDMI in and out
- IR Blaster
- Honeycomb 3.2
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- USB 2.0 (2 ports)
- Measures: 4.92″ x 4.92″ x 4.92″
We have no idea what processor it’s using, or how much RAM it’s running on, or even how much internal storage it has. But it is available from Newegg, Amazon, Adorama, Microcenter, and TigerDirect. We have links to Amazon and Newegg at the bottom of this post for your convenience.
It’s still Google TV, which is a platform that seems to get forgotten a lot by Google. We’re going to cross our fingers and hope we see a big push for Google TV at Google I/O next month. But we aren’t betting on it. We have seen plenty of new Google TV devices coming out in the past 6 months. Mostly from Hisense, LG, Vizio, and now ASUS. Even though Google TV is still running on Honeycomb, it’s still a great service, and probably better than just running straight Android on your TV.
How many of you are planning on picking up the ASUS Cube? Is the price a little too steep for you? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
