Casio seems to have an exclusivity agreement with Verizon, hence the title above. There was the Casio G’zOne Commando which was one of the first rugged Android phones and it was on Verizon. Man that thing was ugly, and outdated, but it sure was rugged. Which is the point of the Casio G’zOne series. The Commando hit Verizon back in the fall of 2011. Now it’s 2013, and there’s still no replacement for that ugly device. But a new Casio G’zOne device has popped up, this one is the C811. It’s already appeared at the FCC and has been cleared, but it’s never been released.
Now we get to see what the C811 actually looks like. And it’s pretty ugly, but what else do you expect for a rugged Android smartphone? And yes it has capacitive buttons. At least they aren’t physical buttons like on Samsung devices. Now the C811 has popped in for another visit with the FCC and has been approved again. So let’s see if Verizon will actually release it this time.
So far no specs are known, but I wouldn’t expect anything to amazing. Especially since it’s a rugged phone and not a high-end device. It’ll probably run either Android 4.0 or 4.1, and have a 4.5-inch display with a nice 1800 to 2100mAh battery, and a very thick and rugged casing around the outside along with some other mid-range to high-end specs. That’s just my guess. If I remember right, the original Commando wasn’t all that good in the spec department but it was nearly indestructible.
So how many of you are looking for a rugged phone on Verizon’s network? Would you pick up the Casio G’zOne Commando 811 if it ever launches on big green red’s network? Let us know your thoughts on this device in the comments down below.
