Featured Review: Powerplant by Tylt

Here we have the Powerplant by Tylt. The Powerplant is a portable charger which has a 5200mAh battery inside. It’s shaped like a nice brick, but is a little lighter. It has a built in micro USB to charge your phone or tablet. It also comes with a micro USB cord to charge the Powerplant, and there’s a USB port to charge another device if needed. On the opposite end of the Powerplant there is a LED battery level indicator, you just press the button and the Powerplant will reveal how much battery is left.

The Powerplant is a bit bigger, or bulkier than the eFreesia Duo’s I reviewed not to long ago. But it does have a bit more battery capacity compared to the eFreesia Duos. The charger overall is pretty light, but I found the embedded micro USB cord to be a bit awkward, not only is it a bit short but it also has to be upside down to work with the Nexus 4. But you can always plug in your Nexus 4 or other phone/tablet with the USB port provided.

The Powerplant by Tylt is a great portable charger, especially for those always on the go, or those playing Ingress and need a little bit more power to take out that enlightened portal! But putting it in your pocket will be a bit awkward as it’s not flat like others I’ve reviewed. But it can still be done.

Tylt sells the Powerplant on their website for $70 (at the time of writing this). Tylt also has plenty of other accessories, and Powerplants for iOS users as well. They also have a Qi wireless charger coming soon, which we are excited to get our hands on. The Powerplant does come with a 1 year warranty, so if anything goes wrong, Tylt will fix it up for you.
