The Monkey Kit is a rather interesting product from Octa. It’s kinda like a dock on steroids, except it doesn’t charge your tablet. Basically the Monkey Tail is like having a third hand to hold your tablet. It has a huge, but strong, suction cup that attaches to the back of your tablet. That suction cup is attached to what is called the “monkey tail” which is fully adjustable. I’ve been using it on my desk for the past week or so, and it’s like having a smaller third display. I’ve been using it on my Nexus 7 and it also works great on the Galaxy Note 10.1. But when sticking your tablet to the suction cup, you’ve gotta be careful. It won’t stick to the logo’s, you’ll have to cover them or it’ll fall off. Which is a bit difficult on the Nexus 7 since you have the Nexus and ASUS logo’s there.
So what kind of use cases does the Monkey kit fit? Well all kinds. If you’re in the kitchen and you’re using a recipe app to make a new dish, it’s handy to check out the recipe on your tablet and still have both hands to cook. This week I’ve been using it for a bit of Netflix while working and in bed not sleeping. It also works great in the car. You can pretty much put it anywhere in the car and have the ultimate navigation system. Who doesn’t love having a GPS system that has a 10-inch display? I really like using it at night where I can watch some Netflix before falling asleep, and I don’t have to worry about it falling.
Pros:
- Great flexibility and adjust-ability
- Great hands-free alternative
- Best alternative to a dock ever, and when you upgrade your tablet you won’t need another Monkey kit like you would with a dock
Cons:
- Price: at $99 it might be a bit pricey for some, but it’s well worth it
- Wish the tail/stick was a bit longer
Overall the Monkey tail is a great product. I haven’t been able to stop raving about it since I got it about a week ago. So where can you get your own? You can head on over to Octa’s website and find out more information about the Monkey Kit as well as their other product the Whale kit. The Monkey kit is $99 and you can buy it directly from Octa. You can also see exactly how well it works on their website. As far as recommending this, I wouldn’t hesitate. Anyone that has a tablet, I’d recommend you buy one of these. It’s one of those accessories that you won’t have to repurchase with a new tablet because it will always work with your new tablet.
