Will we see Google TV make a comeback at Google I/O next month? Well, I certainly hope so. Since last December we’ve been seeing some set top boxes and TV’s with Google TV integrated. So I won’t doubt that we’ll see a nice update to Google TV, maybe even a Nexus TV type device? That would be awesome. For those that don’t know what Google TV is, think of it as Android on your TV. Except it’s Honeycomb and a bit more usable than these USB sticks we see with Android. Google TV has awesome apps like Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime Instant Video, Crackle and more for you to watch movies and TV shows off of. There are also some apps optimized for Google TV, like Twitter.
In the past couple of years, it seemed like Google TV had been forgotten. We haven’t really seen an update for Google TV in a while, although Primetime got updated not to long ago. But we have seen some new Google TV devices from ASUS and Hisense. Back at CES, ASUS showed off the Qube. Which is a Google TV set top box, but we haven’t seen it since. So it may make a reappearance at Google I/O but who knows. Hisense also launched the Hisense Pulse just before Christmas. From what I’ve heard about it, it’s a pretty decent set top box for the price.
So how can Google push Google TV? Well for starters update it to Android 4.2 or 5.0. I’d like to see more integration between Android phone and tablets with Google TV. I’d also like to see it in more TV’s at BestBuy, Walmart and every where else that sells TVs. What would you like to see changed in Google TV at Google I/O this year? So far there really aren’t any rumors about a Google TV revamp, but it does need to happen very badly.
I’d hate to say this, but I think if Google TV doesn’t get a push at I/O this year, it might be in Spring Cleaning next year joining Google Reader? Anyone disagree?
