Ever wondered what would happen to your account data once you pass away? Probably not, I know I haven’t thought about it. Well today, Google is helping you out by launching their new inactive account manager. It’s a new feature for Google accounts that will allow users to decide how they want Google to handle all that data once they’ve passed away. The feature will allow you to set a specific date when your data will be deleted or select a trusted friend to handle the data for you.
For example, you can choose to have your data deleted – after three, six, nine or 12 months of inactivity. Or you can select trusted contacts to receive data from some or all of the following services: +1s; Blogger; Contacts and Circles; Drive; Gmail; Google+ Profiles, Pages and Streams; Picasa Web Albums; Google Voice and YouTube. Before our systems take any action, we’ll first warn you by sending a text message to your cellphone and email to the secondary address you’ve provided.
This new feature, is now available and you can set it up today.You can select how you want your Gmail and data for just about every other Google service out there (and there’s a lot of them) to be handled once you pass away or your account becomes inactive. It’s actually a good feature, that many companies have probably never thought of. I wonder how many accounts out there are from users that are now passed away? I know there’s quite a few on Facebook, and I don’t know if they’ll ever be deleted or what not.
