I have had an exceptionally long and especially troubled relationship with the Motorola Droid Bionic. It goes without saying I’m probably not the only one though.
Since its release, Bionic owners dealt with hardship after hardship, bullshit shoveled directly from the bowels of Motorola and Verizon. Just a month after release, Motorola shifted their attention unreservedly to the new RAZR family and forgot all about the Bionic. For the most part, Verizon didn’t even bother to promote the thing.
Then much later the 4.0 ICS update was delayed way past its due date. The biggest issue with that was that Motorola said nothing about the delay until after the fact. Even then, they simply just updated the status on their update page to another vague release period.
I won’t even bother to mention the battery life, 4G connection issues and the ridiculous amount of bloatware that was pre-installed on it.
Most people that had the Bionic at one time have already ditched it by now, but I’m not most people. I still have my Bionic, and I’m still rocking it as a daily. I won’t bother going into reasons why, although I did lobby Verizon for quite some time to get a trade-in, but that’s beside the point.
Starting today, Verizon is pushing out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to the Bionic. Finally, Bionic owners will be able to experience Google Now, and the advanced notifications. Of course, Motorola and Verizon have also worked on a few device specific tweaks. For example, the Bionic will now see much better data connectivity. Some of that extra crap has even been removed like Sling and MOG.
It seems silly that Bionic owners are just now getting 4.1, but beggars can’t be choosers, right? At least we are getting Jelly Bean. As a little side rant, I will say that I’m never going to buy another Motorola phone again.
Even though, Verizon and Motorola cannot wash away any previous mistreatment with a single update, at least it shows they’re willing to be kind every now and then.
Am I the only one that still has a Droid Bionic? How many of you out there are rocking the Bionic and waiting for this update? I’ll be diligently refreshing the update function like a madman- you can count on that.
