If you have ever owned a Nexus device you probably know that Google doesn’t really have the best track record when it comes to the official compatible accessories for your new toy. For those of you who have never owned a Nexus, I’m not saying that they are cheaply made, don’t fit correctly or anything like that, I mean they seem to take forever to come out after the launch of their intended device.
Take the Nexus 7 for example. When Google announced the Nexus 7 tablet, their best selling device to date by the way, we were promised a flip cover and a desktop dock. The play store availability of the flip cover was spotty at best spending most of it’s time in either the “coming soon” or “out of stock” categories while the elusive desktop dock made it’s way onto the sites of third party retailers well before it got into the Google Play store. Even then it was six months after the launch of the device and if you look now the dock has the dreaded “temporarily out of stock” beside it’s name.
The Nexus 4 was no different. Google promised a “charging orb” for wireless Qi charging and a bumper to protect your new Nexus handset against the occasional bump or scuff. While we knew that the orb wouldn’t be available at launch (shocking I know), the bumper was. Not only did it make a chaotic launch day even more so because adding the bumper would sometimes clear your entire cart for some reason, depending on who you talked to adding the bumper to a successful order actually delayed delivery.
