The OUYA Gets Unboxed, Whats Inside?

Those of you that backed the Kickstarter campaign of the OUYA (the gaming console powered by Android that will retail for $99) have started receiving their shipments today. Our friends over at Engadget got theirs today and did a nice unboxing of the sucker. Engadget also says that they’ll have their full review of the OUYA up later this week. The device will be available for retail starting June 4th. And you can be rest assured that someone on our staff will get one and we’ll be doing plenty of coverage about the console.

You can check out the video down below at the end of this post, it’s Engadget’s unboxing of the OUYA. This morning, I started seeing various other tech journalists for other publications tweeting about receiving theirs. A couple were a bit worried because when they opened the box, it appeared that the controller had came apart. Well that’s not the case. It seems that OUYA shipped them like that on purpose to make it obvious where to put the batteries into the controller. I think they should have just included a diagram or instructions, am I right? Shipping it that way makes it look bad on the company. But that’s just my opinion.

Here are the specs of the OUYA:

  • Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.7GHz
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth
  • Supports 1080p resolutions
  • 8GB of internal storage; Expandable via microSD card slot
  • Online Multiplayer and online store also included and coming soon

So we’ll leave you with the unboxing down below. How many of you are excited about getting the OUYA? How many of you were Kickstarter backers and are getting your consoles now? Let us know in the comments down below.
