Twitter for Android Updates to v4.0; Finally Twitter Goes Holo!

Today, Twitter finally updated it’s app for Android and it is now Holo. Yes you did read that right, it’s now Holo themed, or Android 4.x themed as some might say. It actually looks pretty good! But hey that’s not all that’s new in this update. Here’s what the Play Store has listed under the changelog:

  • We’ve got a brand new look and feel crafted for Android 4.0+. Navigate seamlessly between your favorite parts of Twitter with a simple swipe.
  • It’s easier to connect with friends and join conversations with @username and #hashtag suggestions that appear as you search or compose a Tweet
  • Discover, install and launch your favorite apps from Tweets
  • Other bug fixes and improvements

As you can see in the screenshots above, it looks very nice. And in addition to making it Holo themed, Twitter also got rid of the menu button! Now to get to settings, and editing your profile, you’ll need to swipe over to your profile tab (yes tabs are now swipeable) and click the gear on the left side. I’ve been playing around with the Twitter for Android app for the past day or two, and have just downloaded the new version and man it’s great. Most people don’t like the official app, which it’s not my favorite either, but it’s getting better. Always helps when you add new features, even if they are 2011 and 2012 features.

Twitter also changed the font. I’m hearing that some people find it ugly or hard to read. I haven’t had a problem. But just a heads up, it could be a bit difficult, I actually like the new font. This app does not even feel like Twitter anymore. It feels like a 3rd party app. I wonder what we’ll see in the next versions of Twitter for Android?

So that’s one more app hitting the Holo scene. How many of you use Twitter regularly? You’ll want to follow us then @androidheadline so you don’t miss a thing.
