Today, Comparemymobile.com is reporting that Samsung’s March 14th announcement of the Galaxy S4 generated a 127% increase valuation requests on older Samsung devices and a 29% increase on trade-ins. The firm also said that they watch over 40 different recycling stores in the UK, and they normally only see these types of numbers following an iPhone announcement.
Even though CompareMyMobile.com monitors UK sites, it’s very likely that we’ll see a similar response in the US. Due to the increased supply in Galaxy devices, from those looking to get a Galaxy S4, it drove down the prices across the Galaxy Brand, which is very unsurprising. Although it did have a very small impact on the Galaxy Note line.
If you’re still planning on trading in your Galaxy S3, you may want to hurry up. The above are expected values for the Galaxy line in the US. We’d expect a 15-20% drop on devices that aren’t in their retail packaging, perhaps even more as the Galaxy S4 hits store shelves in more countries and on more carriers.
It’s also very common for sites to ‘highball’ quotes and then lower them quite a bit once they get their hands on the device to see what type of condition it’s in. So don’t count on your quote, in fact I’d count on less than what I’m quoted. Of course you could also sell your devices on Swappa, where you’ll get your money immediately. Also eBay is no longer offering instant sales, so you’ll have to deal with all those eBay fees and shipping. If you ask me, it’s a huge pain in the butt. I’d sell my Galaxy S3 either on Swappa or Craigslist.
How many of you are looking to sell or trade in your Galaxy device, or perhaps another phone so you can grab the Galaxy S4? Let us know in the comments down below what you were able to get for it.
