T-Mobile has been pretty busy readying itself for this new “Uncarrier” rebranding. The company’s CEO, John Legare has even been verbally attacking the opposition. He went so far as to call the age old two year service agreement process “bullshit“.
“This is the biggest crock of shit in my life. Do you have any idea how much you’re paying?”
It was only a matter of time before someone fired back and called T-Mobile out on its new service plans, some of which are quite excessive even if they don’t require subscribers to sign a binding contract.
Virgin Mobile has just launched an advertising campaign, smearing T-Mobile and offering customers some money for switching. T-Mobile customers will be given $100 if they defect to one of Virgin Mobile’s no-contract, $35 unlimited plans.
It’s pretty simple: just choose your Virgin Mobile Beyond Talk smartphone.  Transfer your existing T-Mobile number before May 31, activate your new phone and become a Virgin Mobile customer by May 31 and receive $100 credit.
To kick off the campaign, they released a pretty entertaining video ad that continuously talks about Virgin Mobile’s wireless service. As always, the ad doesn’t actually do as much demoing as it does telling. Virgin did make sure to blatantly tease in their latest promotion, “don’t pay for things you don’t need.” They were specifically touching on the issue of unused minutes, which so many mobile subscribers often have.
I don’t know about you, but I rarely use my phone to talk anymore. In fact, I use my phone to text, browse social media, and play games more than I do to talk to friends and family. I will even admit that I hate talking to people on the phone for an extended period of time. Obviously I’m getting off topic here, so let’s get back on track.
I think this is the polite way of calling out T-Mobile. Clearly Virgin thinks that the Uncarrier’s new plans are bullshit. Indeed, I hold the same sentiment at this point.
Regardless, this whole back and forth ordeal is quite amusing. The ball is now in your court T-Mo, and Legere. What say you?
Oh, and the advertisement is included below, just in case you want to check it out.
