It’s safe to say that Xiaomi broke some sales records today, after selling 20,000 M2S units in just under 45 seconds.
Today was the very first day that Xiaomi made the 32GB M2S smartphone available, and we’ll go over specs in a bit. That’s insane, especially when Google -of all companies- can’t even handle half of that demand for their own Nexus devices. It’s pretty much a given that Google’s Play store will crap out right in the middle of a big event.
Regardless, the 16GB and 32GB variants of the Xiaomi M2S went on sale at 12pm this afternoon and were sold out in a matter of seconds- 45 seconds to be exact. The stock has been depleted entirely, but to be fair, Xiaomi is a much smaller manufacturer than Google’s suppliers.
Xiaomi is also gearing up to launch the M2A this Friday, and if the sales of the M2S are any indication anyone that wants one is going to have to be on the ball. The M2A will be available for 1,499 Yuan when it goes on sale.
As for the M2S, here is the list of hardware specs:
- 1.7Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (quad-core)
- 2GB of installed RAM
- 4.3-inch HD display (720p)
- Two variants
- 16GB internal storage
- 8MP rear facing camera
- 32GB internal storage
- 13MP rear facing camera
- 16GB internal storage
If Xiaomi is to be believed, then the processor in the M2S is slightly better than what’s included in the Galaxy S4. Xiaomi says the M2S received an AnTuTu score of 25,912 while the Galaxy S4 received a score of 25,446. Take that with a grain of salt though, because we all know how little benchmarks mean in the real world.
Compared to what hardware is packed inside both of the M2S variants, they’re pretty damn cheap. The 16GB model sells for 1,999 Yuan ($323.45 USD) while the 32 GB model can be purchased for 2,299 Yuan ($372.25 USD).
Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that the M2S, M2A will be available here in the US. You can always try importing one of the handsets if you want one bad enough.
