When it comes to Android smartphones, we’ve heard some pretty foolish names over the years, haven’t we? Fascinate, Sensation, Xperia A, B, C, D, E, and so on but, it seems that ZTE might well take the crown for worst name given to an Android smartphone. Say hello to the ZTE Geek. While it’s not the best name given to an Android smartphone, it could well be one of the fastest smartphones on the market yet, packing Intel’s latest Clover Trail+ architecture and a high clock speed, the ZTE Geek could out-geek the rest of them.
This latest from ZTE has a lot to offer in a smartphone, let’s take a look at the specs:
- 5-inch 7209 Display
- 2 Ghz Intel Atom Z2580
- 1GB RAM
- 8MP rear-facing camera, 1MP front-facing camera
- 2,300 mAh battery
- Android 4.2
So, while the above specs aren’t exactly fantastic – especially when compared to the Galaxy S IV and HTC One – they’re pretty high-end, it’s just a shame about the display and 2GB of RAM would have been nice to go along with that processor. Speaking of which, Intel’s Clover Trail+ architecture has some serious processing power and it benchmarks really rather well. There’s possibility of ZTE aiming the Geek at tech lovers rather than everyday consumers, judging by both the name and the relatively boring design of the handset.
This device might not ever make it to the States or anywhere in the West, as so often is the case with ZTE but, it is good to see Intel’s chips make it into more smartphones like this, it’s just a shame that Intel don’t seem to be very active at all in the US Wireless Industry. Smartphones powered by Intel shouldn’t be looked at like freaks in the corner, they’re no slower – often they can be faster – than ARM based smartphones but, of course it more than likely comes down to marketing: which one of the following phrases sounds better, leave your comments below:
- 1.9 Ghz Quad-Core Snapdragon 600 from Qualcomm
- 2.0 Ghz Intel Atom Z2580 from Intel with Hyper-Threading
