The folks over at Android Police have done it again. They’ve gotten a hold of the new Google Play Services which is version 3.1.36 and rolling out to devices now. This update is said to be pretty large. And in typical Android Police fashion, they’ve torn the APK apart and found some awesome Goodies that we might be introduced to at Google I/O on Wednesday.
It turns out we’ll be seeing Google Play Games coming live soon. Ron, from Android Police, notes that the settings app for it even works. You are able to switch accounts, turn on notifications, check who can send you notifications and show muted games.
The new icon is a green controller as shown int he screenshots above. The apk reveals synced game saves, icon badges, matchmaking and invites, Achievements, along with Scoring and Leaderboards. So it looks like we’re going to see some big gaming changes come I/O in just a few days. So why are we reporting on an APK teardown? Well because, almost every time they find something new, it’s coming very soon. They’ve done many APK teardowns in the past. Including tearing down some new Google Play Store versions which included outing Wishlists.
So Google Play Games, kind of an obvious name right? Judging by all the features listed here, it looks like Google is trying to compete with Apple’s Game Center which they introduced a few years ago. I have heard from some other Android writers that use iOS, that Game Center is just a complete mess. So let’s hope Google stays away from making it a mess. But it’s about time they got serious about gaming. Android definitely needs it, especially with great new games coming out every day.
