There are some interesting developments coming from Europe this morning, in particular the Archos 80 Xenon has just popped onto the grid. Apparently, it’s an 8-inch Archos branded tablet (obviously) with 3G connectivity support. Reportedly, Archos is taking on Apple and their iPad Mini with this one, so it will be compelling to see how well it moves on the market.
As for the internal specs, well here’s what we have for you:
- 1.2GHz dual-core processor (not sure whether it’s dual or quad)
- No mention of RAM (probably 512MB, but could be 1GB)
- 8-inch TFT LCD display with 1024 x 769 resolution support
- 4GB internal storage with MicroSD expansion slot
- 2MP rear facing camera with 0.3MP front-facing camera
- Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, FM Radio and A-GPS support
- Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
If you’re interested in this bad boy, than you can pre-order it now in Germany for 226 Euros ($296) and that includes VAT costs. Other European retailers are offering the 80 Xenon for 170 Euros ($223). It’s certainly possible there are different variations of the device and that’s why there’s a difference in price across multiple retailers, but we don’t know for sure at the moment. It’s also possible that some of the retailers are reporting incorrect specs for the device. Point being, we’ll update you as soon as we know more.
Since the device has not been ousted in an official capacity it’s hard to say whether or not it will make its way to US shores, so we’ll have to wait for more information on that, as well.
Essentially, to reiterate, we have a plethora of specs thanks to European retailers along with an estimated price for the device. We’re not sure about some of the specs and we don’t know if the device will be released elsewhere in the world. Looks like another typical day in the tech industry, which is so often plagued with rumors, speculation and worse. Don’t mind me that was my proverbial way of letting out a big sigh.
What do you think folks? Do you even care if the Archos 80 Xenon comes to the US? Are you satisfied with other offerings that are currently on shelves? Let us know!
