The folks over at Brando, have sent over a couple of Power Jackets for the Galaxy S4. I’ve been using them for about a week and a half now. I have one without the cover and one with it. They come in black, white, red, blue and yellow. So what exactly is a Power Jacket? Well think of the Mophie battery packs for the iPhone and the HTC One, but a lot cheaper. The Power Jacket is exactly what it sounds like, a jacket for your Galaxy S4, that has a 3200mAh battery inside to recharge your battery through out the day. So you basically have a 5800mAh battery when you’re using one of these.
Like I said, I’ve been using the both of these jackets for about 10 days now. Along with my testing of the Galaxy S4 for my review, which went out this past weekend (mission accomplished!). It works pretty good, it is a bit bulky, but that is pretty understandable, since you’re adding a second battery to the device. One down fall that I didn’t like about it, was that it could not charge up the Galaxy S4 one complete cycle. I turned it on when it hit about 14% and it died when the Galaxy S4 got to around 85-90%. Which is still good, but since it’s a larger battery than what is in the Galaxy S4, I was hoping it would be able to give me another full cycle. I was quite pleased that it had a kickstand on the back of the jacket. That is one of my favorite features in any case. It’s especially good for watching YouTube, Hulu+, Netflix, etc., as shown in the image above.
So where can you get your own Power Jacket? Well they are on sale at Brando’s website for about $37 right now. Which definitely isn’t a bad price, and it’s one of the few larger battery capacities available for the Galaxy S4 at this time. But we all know there will be more coming later on. So should you buy the Power Jacket? Definitely. If you don’t mind a little bit of bulk, then you’re going to love the Power jacket, I know I have.
