HTC First Being Discontinued – So Much for the "First" Facebook Phone

Facebook’s first phone to come with Facebook Home pre-installed is now said to a flop as AT&T is looking to discontinue the device. Last week, AT&T had dropped the price of the HTC First to just $0.99 on a new two-year contract. Now it appears that they are going to stop selling it altogether. Which is actually quite sad. Because the HTC First is a great device. In fact, if I really wanted a stock Android device with LTE, I would buy the HTC First. But since I’m on T-Mobile it won’t work with their HSPA+ network.

BGR is reporting that their source confirmed that the HTC First will be discontinued and unsold inventory is going to be returned to HTC. We don’t know for sure how much unsold inventory there is. But their source did state that AT&T sold less than 15,000 units nationwide through last week. Which is quite sad, because the HTC First is a great device. Especially for those looking for a smaller device and not wanting a 4.5-inch or larger phone.

I reviewed the HTC First not to long ago, in fact I still have it here. I often find myself picking it up over the Nexus 4, because it’s smaller and I think the display is better. Of course, it also has LTE which my Nexus 4 doesn’t. I really liked the HTC First, and once you turn off Facebook Home it’s a really great device. Even with the Snapdragon 400 inside, it’s still mighty fast and doesn’t lag much at all.

So rack up another fail for HTC. At least this was the First and not the One. That would have been a much bigger mistake and fail for HTC. How many of you purchased the HTC First? Let us know in the comments what you think about it.
