Google I/O is due to kick off in just under 24 hours. Today, Google’s CEO, Larry Page, took to Google+ to address his health complications he’s been dealing with for quite some time. His health caused him to skip last year’s conference and a few earnings calls afterwards. Page said that he is trying to help eradicate the issue and is developing a patient survey to gather information from others who suffer from vocal-cord paralysis.
Larry says in his post that about 14 years ago he came down with a rather bad cold, and that his voice has never fully recovered from that cold. He went to a doctor to have it checked out and he was diagnosed with left vocal cord paralysis. Page continues by explaining that vocal cord paralysis is and it’s basically a nerve problem that causes your left vocal cord to not move properly. Doctors were never able to find a cause for this with Mr Page, after extensive examinations and tests.
Page says that the condition never really affected him, except that his voice was a bit weaker than normal, and many people found it a little funny. It raised questions in his mind about his second vocal cord. He was informed that sequential paralysis of one vocal cord following another is extremely rare.
All of this lead up to the CEO setting up a patient survey to help gather information about other people with similar conditions. Since it’s pretty rare, there’s not much data available today. The team is hoping that with more information they can make faster process. You can check out Larry’s full post from Google+ in the source links below along with a link to the patient survey as well.
