The Galaxy Note 3 is certainly not just a rumor, as we’re all expecting Samsung to release a successor the Note 2, sometime this year. However, it also seems Samsung is not content with just 4 Galaxy S4 variants (Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy S4 Active), and wants at least one more.
It seems someone already took a picture with the Galaxy Note 3, which you can see below, and published it to a Polish website:
There’s also the EXIF data of the picture below, and you can see it’s pointing to a Galaxy GT-N7200 device, which does sound like the codename for a Galaxy Note 3, considering Note 1 was GT-N7000, and Note 2 GT-N7100. The camera also seems to be virtually identical to the Galaxy S4 camera.
The next rumor about the Galaxy S4 Mega, makes me even more confused about what Samsung is trying to do with all these “S4” models, because I’m not sure the end result will benefit them, as the brands get further diluted, and they end up adding more and more words to these names every year.
We already have the “Samsung” name and as a brand, then they added “Galaxy”, which also seems to just mean “Samsung phone” these days, and now they are doing the same with the S name, too, while adding completely new brands and words to those names, such as Active, Mega, Zoom, and Mini. This could only mean that eventually they’ll expand those, too. Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Plus? Samsung Galaxy S8 Zoom Extra 2? Who knows where the names will stop, but this can only make people more confused about Samsung’s phones in the future, because nobody will want to remember all those words from a phone’s name.
But going back to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mega, assuming it means a larger Galaxy S4, where does that fit between the Note 3, and the rumored Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3? Did they give up on the last two? And will the S4 Mega be just a Note 3 without the stylus? Will it really have the same specs as the S4, or completely different specs, just like the Mini, and the only thing it will have in common with the S4 will be its design and name?
It’s all starting to get very confusing, and while the “trick” might give them some extra sales in the short term (because they launch different “S4” models for different people), it will probably damage their S brand in the long term, and it will end up losing them sales.
