Earlier this week, we got a chance to take a look at a preview build of Paranoid Android which brings their new feature “Halo” front and center. We first saw this feature teased on their Google+ page earlier this week. Basically Halo is like Facebook’s Chat Heads but on steroids. It’s chat heads but system wide and it’s actually quite awesome.
I played with Halo a bit earlier this week, and I was quite impressed, even though it wasn’t quite finished. It still isn’t but it’s stable enough for the public to use. Paranoid Android detailed the different phases of developing Halo in their past last night:
HALO in three stages:
Phase 1: rewriting the android framework to allow multi windows/apps that run on top of others without stopping or pausing them. completed
Phase 2: halo performs as a simple ticker reacting to incoming notifications, launching apps in floating mode. half-done, needs tweaking
Phase 3: halo will let you switch between notifications. ongoing development
You should be able to go to your favorite XDA thread and find the download link. It’s also available for the Oppo Find 5 now (man that device is getting more developer friendly everyday). Remember you’ll need to flash the Paranoid Android Gapps along with the ROM. Just the regular Gapps won’t do.
We’re really excited to see how Halo progresses for Paranoid Android over the next few weeks and we’ll definitely be covering it more in-depth as it gets more useful and added features. Right now it’s a bit limited, but still awesome.
How many of you are downloading Paranoid Android right now to flash?Let us know in the comments down below.
