It’s becoming a common trend for flagship smartphones to start receiving over-the-air updates as soon as they are released, and that’s a good thing. Manufacturers must be listening to the voices of customers and the bugs that they suffer from. Companies can’t catch everything in pre-release testing, because after-all, nothing tests a device like releasing it to millions of people. As you would expect, the Galaxy S4 is yet another instance of this. On Tuesday, the AT&T Galaxy S4 variant received its first over the air update, and it certainly will not be its last, or at least we hope it won’t.
The AT&T Galaxy S4 has started receiving its first over-the-air software update. The build checks in at just a little over 20MB in size, but it is unclear what exact changes the update has in store. In order to install the update, you must head into the settings and navigate through the menus. When you are prompted to install it, the device will reboot as normal, and the update will be installed. The update bumps the device’s build number to I337UCUAMDL.
So far, users have no idea as to what has changed since the update was installed. Seeing that the Galaxy S4 for AT&T ships with a locked bootloader, which has already been cracked, it may be the carrier’s attempt at fixing the exploit used to unlock the bootloader. However, the developer who unlocked the bootloader has yet to release the tool to the public, and won’t until the Verizon variant is released later this month. Either way, if you have any interest in ever unlocking your Galaxy S4’s bootloader, then it may be best to hold off on installing this update (or any other forthcoming updates).
It’s also worth noting that the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 variant also received an update today. It came in at just under 20MB. That update packed ISIS app improvements and improvements to the visual voicemail service, as well.
Either way, it looks like this update is not packing anything to exciting. Have you installed it? Have you noticed anything different yet? Let us know in the comments!
