Sony has not had much success with its Android phones in the past, especially in the United States. Back at CES 2013, the company unveiled the Xperia Z smartphone which received positive impressions from people at the trade show, but once it hit the hands of reviewers later on, things went downhill. The device was slammed for a crummy display, as well as a poor camera. The device was also never picked up by a United States carrier, so Sony has been forced to sell it for a whopping $630 unlocked, which as we all know, most consumers have no desire to pay that much for a phone. However, just because Sony is struggling doesn’t mean they’re going to give up.
We’ve heard whispers of a Sony device codenamed Togari, but have never seen too many details about it. According to a new report out of both Techblog.gr and Gizbot, the Sony Togari is in fact a real device. Both blogs claim that they heard this news from company representatives at Sony events in their respective countries. The blogs confirm the fact that it will have a 6.44-inch display with a full HD resolution. It will be marketed as a competitor to the Galaxy Note III, and will also feature a stylus like the Note series. The Togari, also known as the Sony Xperia L4, will have a stylus silo and the device will also allow drawing on it with other writing utensils, including pencil.
Both sources claim that the device will launch sometime this summer, which makes sense if it really is going to be marketed as a competitor to the Note III, which is slated to launch sometime in July or August, according to repots. It’s rumored that Sony may have the device ready to show off at the IFA conference in Berlin, taking place at the end of August.
Other specs are still a little wishy-washy. Some reports claim the device will have a Snapdragon 600 processor, while others say a Snapdragon 800 processor. Some rumors also claim 3GB of RAM, while others claim 2GB. Everyone does seem to agree that the Togari will have an IR blaster that allows it to control TVs.
