Sony Xperia Tablet Z Gets the AOSP Treatment

Was the Galaxy S4 Google Edition not enough AOSP news for you this week? Well, Sony put out a blog post today that they have released AOSP for the Xperia Tablet Z, which accompanies the AOSP project for the Xperia Z which is already out.

Sony said that for developers this means that you can access the software to contribute to the project. Keep in mind, that this is before the Xperia Tablet Z even makes it onto US soil. Sony has thrown all of the code up on Github for those that want to dig through all the code.

Sony reminds developers that if they want to participate in this AOSP program, they’ll have to use the GitHub tool and that all devs are welcome. We’ve already seen Sony do this with the Xperia S way back, and as we mentioned before, the Xperia Z already has AOSP support. Which means we might see more devices like the Galaxy S4 Google Edition coming soon, now would that be a terrible thing? Certainly not.

You can check out the video down below to see how AOSP is running on the Xperia Tablet Z. It actually looks fairly good, and seems to be really responsive. So good job on Sony there.

How many of you were contemplating picking up the Xperia Tablet Z? Has this made up your mind for you? The Xperia Tablet Z has some great specs and being able to get stock Android on it with help from Sony is definitely a good thing for Sony and for sales. Now if only they could get the thing into the US already. There were rumors of it landing on T-Mobile, along with the Xperia Z. But it looks like Sony is rapidly running out of time to do that. Let us know in the comments down below if you  have picked up or plan on picking up the Xperia Tablet Z.
