It looks like the Sony Xperia Z just took one step closer to being on a carrier near you according to a recent FCC filing. That’s right if you have been pining away for the flagship smartphone in the 2013 Sony lineup, you could soon be rocking the handset on the nation’s first “Un-Carrier” T-Mobile, something that was being talked about going back a few weeks.
In a move that appears to be intended to create some buzz, the report of the filing comes not from T-Mobile or the FCC but from Sony themselves. The Xperia Z is shown in it’s full glory posing for an eleven photo spread giving both internal and external looks at the device, as well as a user manual that gives away some interesting info.
One nugget of information gleaned from the supporting documents that will surely make those of you who value network speeds excited for the Xperia Z is regarding the frequencies that this thing will run on. For instance not only will this version of the Xperia Z run on T-Mobile’s currently rolling out AWS LTE (band 4) network, but it will have pentaband HSPA+ to fall back on when users are in a non LTE area.
The T-Mobile Xperia Z will also support WiFi calling according to the documents, which is something that T-Mobile has made a hallmark of their network. This is along with the many hyped up features of the “Z” including a water and dust proof design. The Sony Xperia Z also brings with it the following specifications:
5.0 inches TFT Full HD 1080p panel
1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8064+MDM9215M Quad Core processor
146 grams (or 5.15 oz)
Water resistant up to 30 minutes
139 x 71 x 7.9 mm (5.47 x 2.80 x 0.31 inch)
13 megapixel Exmor RS camera with Auto focus and flash
2 MP, Exmor R, front facing camera (1080p)
2,330 mAh battery with talk time up to 11 hours and standby time up to 550 hours
Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
This is the second bit of good news for Android fans regarding the Sony Xperia Z recently as it has been reported that the handset will be brought on to AOSP.
