Unboxing & Initial Impressions: LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T

Today, the LG Optimus G Pro showed up for a review. So it’s time to check out LG’s phablet. From first usage, it has everything I love about the Galaxy Note 2 packed with everything I love about LG’s recent devices. So this is sure to be a great device for me. For those that may not remember, here are the specs of the Optimus G Pro.

  • 5.5-inch 1920×1080 resolution IPS+ LCD display
  • Quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 32GB internal storage (22.67GB usable space) – microSD card slot supports up to 64GB
  • 13MP camera on the back, 2.1MP shooter on the front.
  • Android 4.1.2
  • 3140mAh battery

I’m a huge fan of IPS+ and Super LCD displays, so I’m surely going to love this device. My first LG device, with LG’s skin was the Lucid 2 which I was pretty impressed with. Especially since it was a mid-range device on Verizon. The Optimus G Pro has “borrowed” quite a few features from the Galaxy Note line, but it does not come with a stylus like the S Pen. It does have a removable back, so in theory you should be able to throw an extended battery on the back of it. To access the SIM card and microSD card slot you’ll need to pop the back cover off.

Now the home button is a bit interesting to me. It’s a physical home button, but it doesn’t seem to be as big as the ones on Samsung devices. It lights up as you’d expect, but it does turn different colors. I’ll have to dive into the settings a bit more over the next week or so to see exactly how customizable that is and if it can be turned off. I’m sure that’ll eat up a lot of battery life. Speaking of battery life, I can’t really speak on it to much after having it for just a matter of hours. I’ll cover that in the full review as usual.

If you have any questions about the Optimus G Pro, be sure to leave them down below and I’ll be sure to address them either with a reply or in the full review.
