Earlier today, Sony announced their latest smartphone, the Xperia Z Ultra, for all intents and purposes the device looks like an Xperia Z that’s been injected with growth steroids. So, just what makes the Xperia Z Ultra so much different to its predecessor, the Xperia Z? We’re going to be taking a closer look at some of the features that make the Xperia Z Ultra stand out, and why it’s more than just a refresh from Sony. So, just what have Sony gone and changed in the Xperia Z Ultra?
The largest and most prominent feature of the device is that 6.4-inch display, which Sony are calling a Triluminos display for mobile. This is a change of pace from their Mobile BRAVIA engine used in the Xperia Z and previous smartphones. Essentially, this new display technology will allow Sony’s latest smartphone to produce more vibrant colors without losing their subtlety. As well as this they’ve got their “X-Reality” for mobile technology, which aims to deliver sharp and true images at all times.
Sony have decided to go after the Galaxy Note line a little bit here, and have included support for pencils and the like, with the ability for them to be used just as they would be on paper.
Of course, we all know that the S-Pen from Samsung alone isn’t enough, which is why they spent a lot of time and effort into making software to along with this added technology. While it might not be as feature rich as the Note’s line of apps, it’s certainly a good try from Sony. Much like older Xperia smartphones, the suite of small apps that can be brought up on top of any other app are still here, such as the calculator, notepad and more.
Inside the Xperia Z Ultra is the latest and greatest Snapdragon 800 from Qualcomm, clocked at a whopping 2.2 Ghz. Sony themselves are claiming that this equates to a 75% speed boost from the Snapdragon S4 Pro used in the Xperia Z. Not just that but there’s also added benefit where the battery is concerned and the GPU is said to perform up to 50% better as well.
