Acer Adds a SSD to Their $199 C7 Chromebook Model, Available at Walmart

Acer recently announced that a new version of the C7 Chromebook would soon be available for purchase at Walmart retail stores and online for $199. Clearly, they’re trying to introduce the Chromebook line as a budget friendly alternative.

Sumit Agnihotry, Vice President of product marketing for Acer America, had a few things to say about the Chromebook refresh.

“The expansion of our Acer C7 Chromebook line to Walmart is a clear indication of its growing popularity for anyone who wants a new or second mobile PC for web-based computing. The new configuration with a speedy and responsive SSD at only $199 is an especially notable value.”

What he’s talking about, is the 16GB SSD that’s now included in the newer C7 Chromebook model. More specifically, it will include the following specs and features:

  • 11.6-inch LED-backlit LCD Panel
  • Native Resolution of 1366 x 768
  • 1.1GHz Intel Celeron 847 Processor
  • 2GB DDR3 installed RAM
  • 16GB SSD (as opposed to a 320GB drive)
  • 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • 1.3-megapixel webcam
  • Integrated microphone

According to Acer, the new SSD allows the computer to boot in a total of eight seconds with the added ability to resume from sleep mode virtually instantly. In addition it weighs just over 3 pounds, and has a rated battery life of up to four hours.

The specs for the new model are nearly identical to the previous $199 C7 Chromebook which was offered through Best Buy and the Google Play store. That model is currently listed as out of stock, but another Chromebook listing has taken its place with the same specs and price as the one mentioned above. In other words, Acer is revamping their offering of the C7 Chromebook with some new models that include more budget friendly internals.

Acer believes the new C7 will be a great secondary laptop for individuals that already have a go-to machine and would like quick access to cloud services, and various web based platforms. Chromebooks are ideal for when you need to quickly hop on the internet to do something, or to visit a particular website. That’s exactly the crowd that Acer is hoping to please with this new refresh.
