We’ve seen plenty of Android-based TV sticks launch already. But this week we are seeing the DM918 which is equipped with a powerful quad-core processor and dual external antennas which boosts its wireless connection. The DM918 has a Rockchip RK3188 ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core processor which is supported by a Mali 400 quad-core graphics and 2GB of RAM.
It also features 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless and Bluetooth connectivity. There are also 1 USB port and 2 mini USB ports on this TV stick. The DM918 comes with Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean but also supports Android 4.2 – Jelly Bean. The DM918 is available now for $71.
There have been many mini PC’s and TV sticks that run on Android, but none of them have really impressed me. Normally they are just USB sticks that you plug into your TV and run stock Android. Which is really awkward navigating through with a remote control. I tend to find myself wanting to touch the screen to go where I want to go. I’m sure it’ll get better over time. But if you’re looking to watch Netflix, Hulu+, YouTube, or listen to Pandora, Google Play Music, this is a great way to do it without buying a smart TV. Just plug in the USB stick and set it up like you would a phone or tablet.
It’s a pretty good price for what the DM918 is. Although I wish it had a better name. The DM918 is available now from AliExpress for about $71 which is about the same price as the other USB sticks around. How many of you would pick up a USB stick running Android 4.2 for your TV?
