App of the Day: Verizon FiOS Mobile

We all know that Verizon is more than just a wireless carrier. They also provide FiOS. Mostly on the east coast though. Verizon just recently launched their new FiOS Mobile app which provides live streaming TV channels that are available to watch anywhere in your home. FiOS mobile also offers some premium subscriptions of on demand content from Starz and Encore. Additionally the app allows you to use your device as a remote control to interact with your FiOS TV, remotely manage your DVR recordings, view TV listings and even access the entire Flex View On Demand catalog.

The FiOS mobile app also incorporates many of the features in the Verizon Media Manager and FiOS mobile remote apps for one-stop easy access to all your FiOS entertainment needs. Of course, to use the app you do have to have a Verizon FiOS TV subscription. Or else the app is pretty much useless for you. The Live streaming Channels or remote control requires use of FiOS router or HD set top box. And you’ll also need subscriptions to the premium movie channels to access them. The Flex View service usage and content may have availability restrictions.

Verizon FiOS Mobile launched on June 11 and is compatible with Android 2.3.3 – Gingerbread and higher. It’s a pretty hefty application as well. Weighing in at around 15MB in size. It also has a sub-par average rating, sitting at 2.6 stars. Mostly because you can only watch FiOS while you’re at home, which seems pretty limiting to me.  But if you’re looking for a Verizon FiOS application, this is one of your only choices. Keep in mind it is still on its first release, so it should get better with time.
