This week, Vine finally launched on Android. Vine is owned by Twitter and has been around on iOS for about 5 months already and has collected about 13 million users. It’s now available on Android and is compatible with Android 4.0 and above. Which accounts for roughly 60% of the Android userbase.
With Vine you can create 6 second video clips with audio that loop continuously. It’s almost like making your own animated GIF with sound. It’s actually rather cool. I used it earlier this week to show off a feature on the LG Optimus G Pro. It’s pretty good so far and the Vine team is promising even more features coming soon. Right now the Android version is a bit behind the iOS version but we do have an exclusive feature, zoom. What an exclusive feature right?
Vine includes being able to upload unlimited number of video clips for free (no ads or in-app purchases whatsoever). You can also instantly post to Twitter and Facebook is coming soon. Along with find, follow and interact with people you already know. It can search the people you follow on Twitter to see who you should follow. Additionally you can explore trending posts, featured hashtags and editor’s picks. Searching is not yet available, but the team says that it’ll be coming soon.
Vine is available now in the Play store (you can hit the button below to download it) it weighs in at about 18MB. Beware that Vine will use quite a bit of data. As these videos are rather large. In fact, just posting one Vine on my Nexus 4 used about 25MB of data. So be careful with that. Happy Vining!
