Android is a flexible and malleable OS, there’s no denying that but, Google’s OS hasn’t caught on in business at all. Sure, Android smartphones and tablets are great to have lying around the office but, they still can’t match up to the enterprise might that is BlackBerry. It’s probably safe to say that if you’re reading this at the office, there are more BlackBerries lying around than you thought there were. There’s a good reason that companies are still holding to these old devices; it’s because they’re easy to connect and easy to control. Both are things that are immensely important to the guys down in IT in the basement that you like to laugh at. In fact, without BlackBerries, some companies would seriously struggle communicating.
Things are changing though, with BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programs becoming more commonplace and with people preferring Android to BlackBerry, there’s no surprise that this sort of thing is more in demand than ever before. There’s still the issue of transitioning to such a system if you’ve been reliant on Blackberry’s services for so long; Android is difficult to talk to at times. Well, BlackBerry themselves are looking to change that with the release of the Secure Work Space for Android, which is available in the Play Store right now.
Essentially, what this does is enable users and admins to create a little safe haven for apps, contacts, services, e-mail accounts etc. It’s done by connecting to the back-end in the IT basement and it works with Exchange ActiveSync and BlackBerry Secure Connectivity. If you haven’t guessed, here at Android Headlines, we’re not the most savvy when it comes to BlackBerry type stuffs so perhaps this link from the horse’s mouth can help you find out a little more. You can take a look at the Play Store listing by following the badge at the bottom of the page.
Overall, this could mean some interesting things for BlackBerry, expanding their support for the most popular mobile OS is a very smart move and we’re sure that there’s more on this front to come. Will you be looking into this? Are you running down to the basement to get the IT guys to fix up your Droid?
